How Karaoke Began
Karaoke began around 1970 in Kobe, Japan and is taken from the Japanese word "karappo" meaning empty and "okesutura" meaning orchestra. One evening, snack bar owner Dalsuke Inoue, frustrated by the non arrival of a paid artiste, put on a few background tracks and asked his patrons to sing along. This proved much more popular than the paid musicians and Inoue's "empty orchestra" became the craze that is enjoyed today by millions of karaoke singers across the globe.
